Rune Stones
Runes represent an ancient Germanic alphabet and are used for the purpose of seeking advice and divining the future. The rune language is thought to have been based on Greek or Latin. However, because the ancient Germanic tribes inscribed their messages on wood or stones rather than on paper, they changed the shape of the letters to suit and so the original Greek or Latin letters took on an entirely new shape, one consisting of straight lines, and a new alphabet was formed. The runic alphabet, known as the Futhark, went through many changes, the most common form was thought to be in use between 800 AD and until end of the viking era. The Futhark is thought to be a very special and secret alphabet. The meanings of the letters were kept by a privileged few. Learning about the runes will embark you on an absorbing journey into the history and mythology of ancient Europe.
All of our rune sets are the Lord Futhark type rune sets. Each rune set contains 25 rune stones (24 engraved rune stones plus one blank rune stone).
